Underground System Provides Covert, Pinpoint Intrusion Detection

Tempe, Arizona (USA )

Southwest Microwave now launches the new INTREPID MicroTrack buried cable sensor, a groundbreaking innovation designed to detect intruders and pinpoint their location to within three meters (10 feet). Available now in the USA, and later this year in select global markets, this latest INTREPID technology is poised to again transform the outdoor perimeter security industry.

"With its covert, terrain-following properties, precise detection capabilities and site-adaptive characteristics, MicroTrack is a significant and uniquely different perimeter security solution," said Bob Kirkaldie, director of marketing and sales for Southwest Microwave. "Our teams have logged thousands of hours conducting research at field sites throughout the world, including at our own test facilities in Arizona, Canada and the U.K. In that time, the product's extraordinary capabilities have been fine-tuned and enhanced to provide the most robust buried cable sensor available today."
MicroTrack is the newest addition to the INTREPID family of truly intelligent, site-adaptive perimeter intrusion systems which can pinpoint intrusions and adapt to a real-world site environment.
The MicroTrack system includes a processor unit and two pairs of buried cables. Each cable pair-one transmitter and one receiver-is buried 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm) underground, creating an electromagnetic detection field that allows operators to detect disturbances and precisely locate intruders. A single MicroTrack system is capable of securing up to 400 meters (1300 feet). Multiple systems can be networked together to secure sites of any size.
MicroTrack offers many impressive features. The system's covert design ensures that potential intruders are unaware that a perimeter security system is in place, making MicroTrack less vulnerable to defeat, and more aesthetically pleasing. MicroTrack's terrain-following capabilities allow the system to follow ground contours and handle tight turns with ease. The site-adaptive capabilities of MicroTrack are unparalleled in the industry.
MicroTrack is easy to configure, letting the installer tailor the system to an individual site's requirements. Patented Sensitivity LevelingT software, unique to Southwest Microwave's INTREPID family of products, facilitates easy calibration of the system to account for variations in site conditions or ground composition - resulting in consistent detection across the entire protected area.
"You can fine-tune detection sensitivity based on each site's particular needs," said Kirkaldie. "Once the system 'learns' a site' threshold information, it uses this to detect legitimate targets but ignore harmless disturbances such as small animals crossing the detection field. This feature ensures that MicroTrack functions with precision and reliability."
Software-controlled detection zones also contribute to Microtrack's precise, reliable detection capabilities. Detection zones can be assigned anywhere along the cable - up to 100 zones per 200 meters (656 feet) of sensor cable and up to 200 zones per MicroTrack processor.
MicroTrack features a choice of interfaces for CCTV control or system monitoring. Built-in communications range from simple installer-assigned relay outputs to security management systems that interface. Users can also monitor MicroTrack with Southwest Microwave's new Perimeter Security Manager software.
