Stadium transforms role and upgrades access

London, UK

Formerly built to host the 2012 Olympics, London Stadium will now be transformed into the first venue in Europe to host Major League Baseball, when the New York Yankees and the Boston Reds Sox meet at the venue in June 2019, marking the first time the sport has been played in the UK at this level.

Part of this transformation involved the installation of entrance control security, both externally and internally. Sporting arenas accommodate thousands of visitors at every event and manually processing and checking every spectator is time consuming, which can result in long queues and frustrating delays. Installing entrance control turnstiles to process tickets allows fast throughput of authorised users while preventing any unauthorised users from gaining access.

Security Solutions, one of IDL's recognised integrators, oversaw the stadium’s security transformation, which features a combination of full height turnstiles and half height entrance gates, totalling 108 separate access controls. Ten lanes of half height Fastlane Glasswing turnstiles and 2 lanes of Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant Fastlane Intelligates were installed at the two VIP entrance areas to the stadium.

With London Stadium set to continue to provide a lasting sporting, cultural and community legacy, and be a year-round multi-use venue welcoming millions of visitors, the entrance control turnstiles had to be reliable from day one of the installation, which is why Fastlane Speedgates, renowned for their long-term reliability, were chosen. Designed and manufactured by Integrated Design Limited in the UK also made Fastlane turnstiles a patriotic choice for this iconic British stadium.
