In January 2023, Alarm.com filed a law suit against Vivint claiming numerous patent infringements and demanding an ongoing royalty payment plus damages.  

On Thursday 28th December 2023, the two companies issued a joint announcement confirming that the dispute was over and everything is now resolved.

The simple statement was as follows: "Alarm.com and Vivint announce they have resolved all outstanding litigation between them and entered into a long-term intellectual property license agreement under which Alarm.com will license to Vivint its intellectual property portfolio."

The companies finally closed the door on further discussion on the matter saying,"Except as required under the rules of the Securities and Exchange Commission, no other information shall be provided regarding the settlement of these matters."
