Prestige Parisian hotel revitalises entrance

Lillington, NC (USA) and Paris, France

Three new Boon Edam Crystal revolving doors have been installed at the legendary Peninsula Hotel in the heart of Paris.

Built in 1908 as the Hotel Majestic, the building underwent an extensive renovation to update the facilities, standards and technology while still preserving its historic appeal. The restoration took four years to complete and the result is a five-star, contemporary hotel which maintains and respects the spirit of the original institution.

The project employed the finest artisans with an ancestral knowledge of this landmark building. Affine Design, a major architecture and interior design firm in Paris that specialises in the restoration of exceptional establishments, led the architectural renovation. To meet their vision of a modern, transparent and luxurious entrance, the firm chose to install three Boon Edam Crystal revolving doors.

The three Crystal revolving doors are constructed mostly of glass, creating an open and transparent entrance into the hotel while maximizing the visibility from the sidewalk of the ornate, Beaux Arts interior decorated in ivory and gold with crystal chandeliers. Only a small amount of metal trim holds the glass components together, measuring in mere millimeters and coated in a black powder coat finish.

In addition to minimizing the amount of air infiltration from the outside and keeping the lobby comfortable year round, the revolving doors make a statement as you enter into a world reminiscent of times gone by. The result speaks for itself and will live on for many future generations to enjoy and make memories at as a five-star contemporary historic hotel.
