Brickcom Focus-Easy feature helps speed up installation

Hsinchu, Taiwan

Brickcom Corporation is releasing Focus-Easy, a unique and innovative technology feature which is designed to make single handed focusing of a camera easier and faster.
Focus-Easy allows the installer to simply rely on his/her hearing to get the task done quickly and efficiently. With 3 simple steps, even a first-time user would be able to focus the camera in 1 minute with the help of Focus-Easy.

Conventionally, it is common that two or more people work together to "ensure a surveillance camera is focused", with at least one person adjusting the camera lens on the site and another one checking the image and giving instruction in the control room. Often, due to communication difficulties and video transmission latency, focusing the camera in this way can be time-consuming, especially when installing the camera outdoors, setting up large numbers of cameras, or working with unskilled installers.

Various methods are available to facilitate this process, but each has its own pros and cons. A portable CCTV tester can turn the process into a straightforward one-man job, but the image displayed on the CCTV tester screen may not be good enough for the installer to make the correct focusing decsion. The auto focus functions on PTZ and speed dome cameras ensures that focusing is no longer an issue, but such cameras are expensive and less durable due to the sophisticated mechanical design and their moving parts.

Brickcom’s Focus-Easy facilitates the process with its innovative software algorithm, without adding cost to the camera hardware. The main concept behind Focus-Easy is similar to that of a car reversing sensor. During the focusing process, the degree of focus will be indicated to the installer by means of a buzzer. The further away the image is from correct focus, the longer the intervals between the successive beeps. The closer the image gets to correct focus then faster the beeps. When the image is focused properly, then the buzzer will sound a long beep for 3 seconds as notification.

For users who still prefer to ensure image clarity with their own eyes, Focus-Easy supports on-screen display (OSD) via the TV-out video. The OSD indicator value is updated in real time, ranging from 0 to 100, where the value of 100 means the image is perfectly focused. The OSD support can be a great help, especially for those CCTV testers with a small screen. Focus-Easy has been designed to significantly improve ease of installation and reduces labour time to a minimum.

Brickcom’s Focus-Easy is supported on the Brickcom V5 series manual-focal cameras.
