With the target of further upgrading the handling facilities at its Abu Dhabi hub, Abu Dhabi Airport Services has purchased a Silhouette Scan CAB 2000 X-ray inspection system from Smiths Detection to further increase security within the cargo supply chain. "The high technology portal scanner is able to x-ray 40 foot trailers with four Unit Load Devices (ULD) of cargo in less than 90 seconds, significantly reducing processing times of cargo delivered at Abu Dhabi International Airport. As well as reassuring customer airlines, this significant investment has brought new levels of efficiency and speed in processing freight," says Roland Blaney, Cargo Manager, Abu Dhabi Airport Services (ADAS).
Hans Zirwes, General Manager and CSO Smiths Heimann GmbH, which manufactured the x-ray system, adds further details on the capacity of the machine "The Silhouette Scan CAB 2000 provides an economical solution for screening large-volume loads at high speed. It is ideally suited for many applications in the cargo handling industry, allowing a rapid inspection of trucks and containers without the need to open them."
This investment at Etihad's hub Abu Dhabi International Airport is designed to have a positive impact not only on the commercial side of the business but also in enhancing security along the whole supply chain.
