Featuring a microprocessor chip, the vertically designed NBD SMART Debit card uses an individual PIN number to confirm transactions as well as verifying that the card used is authentic. The technology used in the Smart card will significantly improve security and reduce card fraud by ensuring that the card cannot be misused should it be lost or stolen.

In addition to the added security features, NBD's SMART Debit card offers cardholders the chance to receive rewards and loyalty benefits by using the card. Cardholders can earn and accumulate cash value worth 0.40% for both domestic and international purchases; making it the highest cash reward scheme in the region for debit cards. Cardholders accumulated cash value will be automatically credited at the end of each quarter to their NBD bank account.

The new NBD SMART Debit card will be initially piloted to a selected NBD customer segment, and will subsequently be offered to all NBD customers.
