China Railway Signal & Communication Corp. is responsible for the system integration of Qinghai-Tibet Railway and 200pcs Hikvision DS-8016HC Net DVRs were installed. Utilizing Hikvision DVR, it created steady and reliable video surveillance system, which runs virtually maintenance-free in a region where few technical personnel are available.

A vast section of Qinghai-Tibet Railway is covered by tundra, and terrible environment makes it difficult for railway construction. Extreme climate conditions such as sand and snow storms also add to the challenges of the daily maintenance of the railway. A system used for severe conditions like these requires comprehensive functionality and ultra-high performance specifications. However, harsh natural conditions and a shortage of technical personnel meant that the solution needed to run virtually maintenance-free.

As such, Hikvision DS-8016HC fully meets these requirements. It has been put in place for critical areas like railway stations and bridges to monitor train operations and facility construction. DS-8016HC 16 channels can be connected by one control room at the same time so as to make timely response to emergencies. Hikvision DS-8016HC also supports voice talk between surveillance center at back end to individual stations at front end. Since many of the establishments along the railway are unstaffed, part of railway management is undertaken by said video surveillance system as well. Qinghai-Tibet Railway is located in a rugged terrain and in high elevation; therefore, it has specific demands which Hikvision DS-8016HC is competent to satisfy on hard disk drives and encoders. In addition, because of the lower oxygen level is half of that in plain, products may need to have lower heat conductivity or their life expectancy may be affected.
