Garanti Bank upgrades security at 300 branches

Istanbul, Turkey

The Garanti Bank provides a wide range of financial services to more than 14 million customers.

In Turkey the Garanti Bank has invested in 960H and new 1280H DVRs supplied by Hanwha Techwin Europe, in order to monitor and record activity at 300 of its branches and 2,800 ATMs.

The DVRs have been installed as replacements for outdated video recorders that were increasingly proving to be unreliable and expensive to maintain. Depending on the number of cameras, either four or sixteen channel 960H/1280H series DVRs have been installed at each location.

Established in 1946, Garanti Bank is Turkey’s second largest private bank with consolidated assets of US$ 103.1 billion as of 31st March, 2016. Employing approximately 20,000 people, it provides a wide range of financial services to more than 14 million customers through an extensive distribution network of domestic branches, as well as in Cyprus, Luxembourg and Malta, and representative offices in London, Düsseldorf and Shanghai.

“The safety of our customers and staff is of paramount importance and we are determined to combat any attempts to commit fraud,” said İlker Çetin, Purchasing Manager for Garanti Bank. “It is essential that we are able to reliably record images captured by the 8,000 cameras located at our branches and ATM’s. We decided therefore to invest in new DVRs to ensure we could, when necessary, pass on high quality video evidence to the police to help them investigate any criminal activity and also to use for ourselves for any potential inside situations. ”

Depending on the number of cameras, either four or sixteen channel 960H/1280H series DVRs have been installed at each location. All are able to simultaneously record high resolution images in real time, across all their channels.

To comply with Garanti Bank’s operational requirements, as well as legal obligations, Hanwha Techwin design engineers provided customised firmware for the DVRs which, working together with their centralised management software (SSM), included the ability to support the Bank’s MSSQL database system.

“Hanwha Techwin’s ability to respond quickly with the necessary firmware changes was a major factor in our decision to place the order with them,” said İlker Çetin. “We were also attracted to DVRs as they have a very user-friendly Graphical User Interface which meant that our engineers found them simple to install and configure, and on a day-to-day basis, our managers at each location have found them easy to operate.”
