E2S products gain Marine Equipment Directive approval

London, UK

E2S has gained Marine Equipment Directive (MED) approval for its A105N, A112 and BExS110 alarm sounders.
This approval enables them to be installed as part of fire protection system in passenger ships, cargo vessels and tankers.

The MED directive guarantees the uniform application of standards in Chapter 11-2 of the international SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea Convention) and defines the design and test standards for the equipment and the procedures required for testing.

The A105N and A112 square format sounders have a maximum output of 112dB(A) and 119dB(A) at 1 metre, the BExS110 horn sounder is rated at 117dB(A) at 1 metre; all have 32 user-selectable tones and three remotely selectable stages. The units offer high output levels, low current draw, automatic synchronisation and have effective ranges at 1kHz are 60m, 125m and 100m respectively. The Alertalarm A Series are manufactured in high impact UL94 V0 flame-retardant ABS, sealed to IP66 for use in marine environments; the IP67 flameproof BEx unit is in marine grade copper free LM6 aluminium and is approved for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 gas environments.

Additional products from E2S’s extensive range of explosion proof, intrinsically safe and heavy-duty industrial audible and visible warning devices are expected to be MED approved once the third-party testing cycles have been completed.
