Airlive IP cameras assist in operating theatre

On 17 October 2014, the Scientific and Training conference in the field of Vascular Surgery was held in Sanok,Poland.  At the event, the organisers invited two outstanding professionals to watch live surgery live at a conference and explain every stage to the event attendees.  This online visual imagery and commentary was accomplished with the help of Airlive IP camera technology.

Professor Peter Szopiński, a well known specialist in vascular surgery, and Dr. Torsten Fuß, a lecturer in international endovascular LINC 2014 workshops were the invited speakers at the event.  Thanks to the  Comsat Sanok Company, regional e-tailer and integrator with support services, the conference attandees were able to enjoy online viewing and interpretation of the whole surgery process.

The project required 2 IP cameras in the operating room for the objectives of monitoring all patient data shown on the LCD screen needed to perform the operation, and secondly to cross-reference the operating table with the work of the surgeons during the proceedings.   The biggest challenge to Comsat Sanok, the integrator, was to provide a clear, sharp and fast online view from the operating theatre to the conference room, located in another part of the clinic, using a local network.  It was also important to record the whole of the surgical process for further analysis and for future use as an example and material for medical students.

The integrator in charge of the project recommended installation of the Airlive IP cameras. To keep the instalation simple and reliable, they selected two Airlive IP-200HD cameras with PoE. These cameras were connected to the  Core NVR9 recorder with 500Gb HDD built-in. One camera was mounted on the ceiling in the operating room to clearly view the whole surgery area and the second was installed in front of the LCD screen showing the state of the patient's vital functions for detailed viewing and analysis during the surgery.

In order to fulfill the needs of the conference, the integrator mounted 2 big screens and projectors showing both live videos at the same time, and with accompanying audible vocal commentary from the specialists performing the surgery. The Airlive IP-200HD along with the Core NVR9 provided very fast and clear views without any frame loss or delay. In addition the whole operation was recorded onto the NVR's HDD providing the option to view the whole operation later. The recorded images were rich in detail (2mpx capable of capturing images up to 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution).

According to the integratro, all the organisers and attendees were satisfied with the quality of the images and with the fast transmission, and would recommend this type of implementation for other similar cases.
