This innovation solves a long standing problem common with all LED based IR illuminators, the degradation of LED's over time. LED degradation results in poor infrared performance, grainy snowy images and reduced illumination range, in fact, this can be as much as 20 percent the specified range in as little as six months. To combat this Derwent engineers have developed Constant Light technology, which automatically compensates for this natural degradation to deliver a constant level of lighting performance throughout the life of the illuminator, guaranteed for five years, ensuring the lamp continues to deliver the specified optical output levels throughout its operational life.

Another industry first is the inclusion of a 12V DC / 24V AC power supply unit (PSU) contained directly within the IR head, allowing for easier installation with no unsightly PSU boxes to detract from the aesthetics of the environment.
