Mission 500 has teamed together with Habitat for Humanity in Paterson, NJ to assist with construction of a home in Paterson Habitat's 4th Ward Focus area initiative. This initiative is the single largest project in Paterson Habitat's 35-year history and more than half of the homes are already completed.
On Sunday in Overpeck County Park in Ridgefield Park, NJ, Mission 500 will host its 5th annual softball charity event. The day-long event includes various competitions and family fun to help meet Mission 500's goal of raising $50,000. The beneficiaries of this year’s fund raiser include Paterson Habitat for Humanity and the New York City Firefighters Burn Center Foundation’s programme that sends child burn victims to a special summer camp in Connecticut designed to facilitate their special needs.
The day begins with a 9:00AM exhibition game between softball teams recruited from the ranks of the New York City Fire Department and professional softball players. The featured event of the day will be the 12:30PM softball game between the Protection Pirates and the Security Sluggers, two all-star teams comprised of Mission 500 members from around the metropolitan area.
The day’s events also include home run derby competitions for adults and children as well as games and food. Spectators will be asked for donations and their help in filling 400 backpacks with school supplies to be donated to children in the South Bronx.
