Step Up progamme enables Denver schools to upgrade security

Denver, Co

Technicians from Convergint Technologies arrived at the schools wearing bright green shirts to install new security cameras.

As part of its 18th annual Social Responsibility Day, Convergint gave back to 18 schools through its Step Up for Schools initiative.

The goal of this programme is to increase safety and security in K-12 schools, especially those in underserved local communities. As a global systems integrator, Convergint is in a unique position to step up and make a difference in local communities through its colleagues’ experience, talents, and connections.

Convergint colleagues donated time and materials to Singing Hills and Running Creek elementary schools in Denver, Co, by upgrading their security system and enhancing landscaping. The project was featured by ABC Denver in a recent newscast.

Technicians from Convergint Technologies arrived at the schools wearing bright green shirts to install new security cameras and a keypad at the entrance with audio and video to control who has access to the school. They also added some surveillance to the perimeter as well as helping the schools with the visitor management access and control and creating a new process to help create a more secure delivery of students in and out of school.

Business Development Manager Stephen Fischer believes school security technology is constantly evolving and improving, but there’s always a need for more. “As a whole, I would like to think that they have become safer, but I think there’s probably a long way to go and it really involves the entire community to be engaged,” Fischer said. “There continues to be a lack of funding and a lack of resources, but there are some avenues that you can use, whether it be cooperative purchasing vehicles, grants, funding of that nature, foundations that started to get involved with different school districts, but it really boils down to having the right partners in place to be able to have the right solutions.”
