Paraguay customs deploys Smiths detection technology

Smiths detection secures customs in Paraguay

Smiths Detection, through its local partner Grupo Empresarial Preventec S.A. has won a contract to supply the Paraguayan Customs Service with an additional high energy inspection system and its first mobile low energy X-ray system. The contract award, which also includes technical support and a multi-year warranty, supports plans to modernise and optimise security checks at ports and border crossings in Paraguay.

HCVMe35, Smiths Detection’s high energy system, which can screen whole trucks, will be the third system of its kind procured by Paraguayan Customs. The low energy Scanvan 8585 is a mobile checkpoint for small packages and goods inspection and will also serve to deter and decrease the transit of commercial contraband, weapons, and narcotics.

Eduardo Parodi, Vice President, LAC & US Regional Sales, Smiths Detection, said: “Our e35 series of cutting-edge high energy inspection systems, combined with strong local service capabilities in an easy-to-use package for a range of environments. Our solutions allow government agencies like Paraguayan Customs to make fast and effective decisions in their efforts to intercept contraband and collect duties while ensuring an optimised flow of goods through its country. The proven support and expertise of Preven-Tec is a key contributor to winning this latest award.”
