Unlike other wireless systems for the video surveillance market, which are based on wireless computer network technology, Vigil is using proven digital technology from the broadcast industry (Digital TV) to provide efficient, reliable, and flexible wireless transmission from many video cameras to a surveillance center.

"Up to one hundred cameras can be connected over a small number of 8 MHz radio channels in the ISM bands. The system offers full composite video connectivity, full remote control of the cameras, and fits easily into any common video surveillance system, mixing cable, IP and wireless connectivity".
The use of MPEG-4 video compression ensures the highest possible quality at full 25 fps rates, while allowing up to one hundred cameras to share the same 8 MHz radio channel. The multi carrier COFDM modulation coming from the Digital TV industry offers reliable radio transmission, even when interference resulting from multipath propagation is incurred. Unlike computer network based technology, Vigil's deterministic technology guarantees low latency and loss free video transmission. It also allows automatic image analysis and accurate movement detection.
With only two types of products (the radio interface unit and the multi channel video decoder), and a very simple configuration tool, deploying a network is quick and easy, making Vigil also ideal for the video surveillance of large temporary public events.
