HID RFID solution turns shirts into tickets

Austin, Tx and Ornskoldsvik, Sweden

An Identification Technologies RFID solution from HID Global has been selected by MODO of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) based in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden for its RFID-embedded shirts that are functioning as season tickets for fans.

Each shirt has an HID Global Epoxy tag sewn into one sleeve to be scanned for a speedy and effortless entry. As the first Swedish hockey team ever to replace its season tickets with shirts, MODO is setting the standard in easy access and team spirit for fans, with 3,000 of the team’s red shirts sold to date.

“We want to create an exciting atmosphere this year and that starts by creating a wonderful arena,” said Charlotte Gustavsson, CEO of Team MODO. “HID Global’s Epoxy tag is the perfect solution to help bring our vision to life. With as many shirts as we’re selling, we are now looking forward to seeing an arena full of red, which will create an atmosphere that’s motivating for the players and fun for the fans.”

Gustavsson also selected HID Global Epoxy RFID tags since they are water-resistant so fans can wear and wash their shirts easily for repeated use, thus keeping up with MODO’s game schedule. “When I took over I promised that we would enhance the experience in the arena in the hope that people will arrive earlier and stay longer after the games. We are constantly improving and our shirts embedded with HID Global’s tags has been a major boost to our goals,” she said.

The project was implemented by Swedish company Areff Systems AB. “We selected Epoxy Tag RFID transponders from HID Global because they are constructed for their optimal performance and compatibility with our existing payment infrastructure,” said Bernt Karlsson, CEO of Areff Systems. “Our long-lasting cooperation with HID Global continuously enables us to build high-performance RFID solutions for Team MODO’s use and a broad spectrum of additional applications.”

“Team MODO’s use of HID Global Epoxy transponders further validate that our RFID tags are an ideal choice for applications that require exceptional durability under various stressful and high-wear conditions,” said Richard Aufreiter, director of product management, Identification Technologies with HID Global. “What’s more, the Epoxy housing shield the tags’ advanced integrated chips. This makes it possible to utilize RFID technology for accelerating logistics and improving data transmission both in the case of Team MODO and for many other applications.”

HID Global RFID transponders are designed for optimal performance and are also resistant to fuels, mineral oils, petroleum and salt mist. Unrelenting performance allows Epoxy Tag transponders to be used in both commercial settings such as uniform production and industrial environments such as repeated autoclaving in medical applications, or injection molding processes for permanent embedding into manufacturing components, equipment or containers. Each micro-thin Epoxy RFID Tag device has a smooth surface, which can be imprinted with customized artwork and adhered with glue, secured with screws, or embedded in a custom housing. The tags can be adapted to almost limitless form factors, making it the ideal solution for many industrial applications.
