Valetta Grand Harbor benefits from GVD IP surveillance system

Valetta, Malta

As an EU Member State since 2004, as well as the impact of 9/11 attack, Malta needs to provide a secure trading spot and ensure the world that it is an internationally safe region at all times. Vallettas Grand Harbor is busy every day and a project implementing more than 50pcs of 3M megapixel security cameras and scalable back-end support system was required and installed at the terminal gate.
The cruise terminal is fully open to tourists and other activities going on in and around the port, harbours, bays, quays and berths 24 hours every day. It is not easy for the gate staff to control all possible situations, unless large and wide areas along the quay side of the Valletta Waterfront are covered with IP cameras.

Security staff require immediate viewing, detailed images, critical event alerts and recording for later investigation in order to rule out any possible occurrences of crime, as well as the capability to remotely monitor activities anytime from anywhere in order to gain control.

GVD provides a scalable total solution to cover all these monitoring requirements plus the ability to manage high resolution and a network-based system. A successful installation in cooperation with the strong system provider Alberta, GVD empowered megapixel systems guarantee the complete monitoring of people and goods in transit in all the areas of the port, and to achieve a unified management of the region, in terms of both the hardware and software. Karim Cassar, Tenders & Technicall Research Executive at Alberta points out the benefits of GVD and said: “I selected GVD products over competitive products for their good response and support. The system is working very well to date.”

In this case, GVD provides the ideal performance of megapixel surveillance, in terms of deploying megapixel security cameras to cover the same physical area. In other words, it is a bonus to cover a wider field of view with far less installation expenditure on cabling, camera housings etc. Based on excellent integration with world leading camera vendor, Arecont Vision, GVD NVR M600 series, server class rack mount, manages to maximise video cropping capability. The additionally provided sub-channel function ensures that the system helps to save storage costs effectively by up to 75%.

Under GVD’s dual codec design, the system optimises both bandwidth and storage, not only delivering live, recorded and playback video, but also high quality recording data, and efficient management for such a large IP installation.

Utilising the GVD E100/E200 series, the surveillance staff are able to manage the monitoring easily with a unique switching keyboard and they are also able to control multiple views via the built-in virtual matrix 24/7. In addition the high resolution enables improves viewing quality over standard resolution security cameras, the high frame rate allows simultaneous detailed investigation and the capability of decoding large amounts of data for long term operation etc. GVD products have so far proven to provide secure IP surveillance and safeguard the terminal.
