UAE selects Sagem Sécurité speed control radars

Abu Dhabi, UAE

Following an international request for proposals (RFP), the Abu Dhabi police has chosen Sagem Sécurité's Mesta automated speed control radars. The contract covers the supply, deployment and maintenance of these radars. The United Arab Emirates are the first in this area of the world to deploy this Doppler-based system featuring color digital imaging.

Following very stringent tests, the advanced technology offered by Sagem Sécurité was a decisive factor in the selection by the Abu Dhabi police, since it offers leading performance in terms of speed measurement and image acquisition. Two cameras measure the speed of vehicles in up to six lanes, with unrivaled accuracy and image quality.

"This is totally in line with Abu Dhabi Police strategy to enforce public security and lower the number of casualties on the road achieving international levels and standards", said Brigadier Ahmed Nasser Alraisi, general director of Central Operations.

"Tests performed for the international RFP confirmed the top performance of our state-of-the-art systems," said Jean-Paul Jainsky, chairman and CEO of Sagem Sécurité. "In addition, the excellent service quality delivered by our local staff since 1993 has built up a reservoir of trust that led to this selection by the United Arab Emirates."

Sagem Sécurité already operates in this region as a supplier of integrated biometric identity systems. With this latest contract it bolsters its position in the booming
security market and confirms its role in the fight to maintain road safety. Since 2003, some 2,000 Sagem Sécurité radars have been deployed along French roads. This program has made France one of the leaders in road safety in Europe: from 2002 to 2007 it reduced the number of highway fatalities by 43 percent, saving nearly 11,000 lives over the period.
