Brigadier Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi's speech:

"The Intersec Conference and Exhibition is very important to Dubai Civil Defence, companies and the public alike. This annual events hosts the concerned academicians and field commanders who play a vital role in enriching preventive culture and enhancing occupational skills through their field researches and experiments. The event also presents solutions for problems relating to prevention, firefighting and occupational safety that are becoming more and more demanding as the economic sector continues to grow. Thus, Dubai Civil Defence is playing a leading role in supporting Intersec Conference and Exhibition.

Creating awareness of fire risks and fire safety is one of the duties of Dubai Civil Defence that is why Dubai Civil Defence is one of the major sponsors of Intersec Middle East and we will be conducting a demonstration of our fire fighting capabilities as well as showing off new equipment to fight fires in high rise buildings and rescue people trapped in high rise buildings.

The mushrooming high-rise buildings in cities across the world are considered to feature the architectural, civilized and beautiful aspects of modern cities. In the meantime, these high-rise buildings need to be safe havens for occupants who must also feel safe and comfortable.

High-rise buildings represent:

1. Scientific, architectural, administrative and technical challenges for all engineers, officials and firefighters in terms of latest designs, best construction mechanism, best work means and best emanagement quality.
2. An opportunity for specialists to express their creativity and capabilities and show their design, executive and applied skills.
3. An incentive to develop and innovate new technologies to meet construction utility requirements of high-rise buildings including safety requirements against dangers.
4. A test for scientific capabilities, leadership potential and individual firefighting and rescue skills.

I am inviting the press to help us in creating fire safety awareness among members of the public by publicizing fire safety measures and rules that we issue from time to time. Let us be partners in this endeavour to make Dubai a safe place to live for residents and expatriates alike and make work sites safe and healthy for those who work there.
