Qtel hosts information security seminars

Doha, Qatar

Qtel, the leading telecommunications company in Qatar, continues to invest time and energy in solutions that enable Qatari companies to improve efficiencies and make their businesses easier to manage.

In that context, the Qtel Business Solutions Team recently hosted a seminar at Qtel Tower, Doha, for a number of key corporate clients, to educate them about information security threats that can have a major impact on their business. The seminar, organized by Qtel and ictQATAR - Q-CERT, was attended by a number of Qtel's key corporate customers, including the Ministry of AWQAF, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ras Gas, Qatar Gas, Qatar Pertroleum, QNB and Qatar Airways, in order to educate customers on information security, that may negatively influence different corporations, organizations and ministries working in Qatar.

Eng. Khalid Abdulla Al-Mansouri, executive director of business solutions, Qtel, said: "Providing timely and important information to clients is a key priority for Qtel's Business Solutions Team. We enjoy a very strong relationship with our corporate clients, and are delighted to share in Q-CERT's expertise to provide this important information to our customers." Eng. Al Mansouri also indicated that further seminars will take place over the coming months.

Those who attended the seminar received important facts about the information security threats they face from Malware and Botnet. Botnets are often used to propagate spam messages that can then be forwarded to many 3rd parties.

Khalid Al-Hashmi, director of Q-CERT stated, "The goal of Q-CERT is to drive information security improvements in the State of Qatar and support progress in the region and this seminar enabled us to convey our message to the heart of the critical infrastructure community."

It is important that businesses are vigilant about the rise of malicious codes and spamming because more and more organizations around the world are blacklisting subscribers due to spam. This results in mail delivery problems and can have a direct effect on businesses.

According to Al-Mansouri, "The Qtel Business Solutions Team will continue to collaborate with Q-CERT to provide our business customers with further gatherings that specialize in Information Security threats and how to militate against them."
