The 10 Trainees have been employed with Qatargas for a minimum of 24 months in the security field. During this period they have undergone extensive development in various areas of security operations. They have just completed the last stage of trainee development with an intense four weeks of classroom theory work and two weeks of practical tests before they secured their position as a full staff in the company.

During the four weeks of classroom training, the students were exposed to various security related topics that are essential in security guard operations. Areas such as incident response, communication and customer care, security procedures, health and safety are just some of the key areas covered. All practical training involved participation in practical exercises designed to test competency and the ability of the security guard to do the required task.

Training Officer Nicholas Dodd assisted by senior shift leader Peter Namarato monitored and supervised the practical portion of the training and each trainee was placed in positions that required for him to utilize both his training and experience over the development period.

This was done to ensure the knowledge was retained and the security guard could perform under stressful conditions when called upon in time of emergency. All guards performed extremely well throughout the course, and they benefited greatly. Later this year, there will be supplementary courses that include english language training to further extend their security skills and knowledge.

This is the first phase of a comprehensive security training program being developed for Qatargas Security by Nicholas Dodd. The next phase will involve the development of an in-depth training program for all security related skills and competencies for the LNG security industry. Other specialized training will take place in October as five of Qatargas' national shift leaders and Ras Laffan operations supervisor, Bill Soper will be attending a Middle East security conference.

In addition general service manager, Nasser Al Misnad, presented four of Qatargas' senior security staff with a certified protection professional (CPP) board certification from the international ASIS security organization.

ASIS is a world wide industrial security organization that provides security standards for security professionals employed in industrial security. The program developed by the college of the North Atlantic college sponsored by ASIS provided the professional instruction over a 5 month period.

Qatargas head of security, Gordon Penney comments that although all of his senior staff came from various extensive security backgrounds it is instrumental to our success that we continue to develop in various areas of the security field especially since security threats continue to change and security technology becomes more advanced.

One major effort that Qatargas is focusing on is the hiring of qualified nationals from within the local communities. Six trainees are from the Al-Khor community and four are residing in Doha.
