Contactless biometrics lowers risk of infection

Pfaffikon,, Switzerland

Until now, the spread of disease through the workplace has probably not been an important consideration in choosing a biometric solution. The rapid, worldwide spread of Corona virus has put hygiene and the control of contagious diseases at the forefront of the minds of many. Through the nature of its contactless technology, TBS provide solutions that can offer to mitigate the risk of the spread of diseases.

Access control and time and attendance still represent the two most common uses of biometric recognition. The most widely used biometric recognition devices are fingerprint readers. Traditional fingerprint readers require a user to physically place their finger onto the biometric sensor. One of the single biggest causes of disease transmission is based on what we touch, the germs we leave behind and the germs we pick up from what other people have touched. This means that any touch-based biometric reader could become the very epicentre for the spread of disease through a workforce if not cleaned regularly.

TBS has been developing touchless biometric solutions since 2003, and has become a leading expert in the field of contactless biometrics. The company offers two touchless solutions: TBS 2D Eye and TBS 3D Terminal.

The TBS 2D Eye is an iris recognition reader capable of identifying people without the need for users to touch the device. The reader automatically detects the presence of someone in front of the device. The reader detects a face and automatically adjusts the angle of the iris camera. The image of the irises is captured and converted to a biometric template and then compared against the database. With iris recognition being the most unique form of identification, the 2D Eye is a perfect choice for anyone looking for a highly accurate, contactless solution.

The TBS 3D Terminal is a fingerprint reader which is also touchless. Unlike a traditional fingerprint reader, users do not have to put their finger on a fingerprint sensor, in fact, users do not have to touch the device at all. The users simply present their finger to a hole in the front of the device and carefully positioned cameras take three simultaneous images of the entire finger, from nail-to-nail. The images are stitched together, and a biometric template is produced and compared to the database. Not only is the TBS 3D Terminal hygienic, it is also extremely accurate and easy to use.

TBS biometric scanners can enhance security, increase the efficiency of identification and also offer a reduction in the risk of the spread of diseases.
