Benchmark recommendation status for Panasonic DVR

The Panasonic WJ HD316A 16 channel digital video recorder has been awarded a Benchmark Recommended status in the September to October issue 2006 for Achieving 8.5 out of 10 in an independent test carried out by the publication.

The WJ-HD316A offers a unique system, featuring a high compression ratio of 1.30 for practical use. All the vital recording components and features are condensed into one stylish yet compact unit making highly reliable surveillance recording possible across a wide range of applications. Panasonic's WJ-HD316A series also features System Scalability to meet any extended user needs.
Commenting on the WJ-HD316A's performance, the testers at Benchmark stated, "Essentially, the WJ-HD316 is easy to use and configure, and it has some very nice touches that set it above many of the mainstream 16 channel DVRs out there."
"The WJ-HD316 is a high performance machine and much of the emphasis is on image quality and ease of use.Essentially, even at the lowest quality setting the final images will give some high end DVRs a run for their money."
Panasonic's WJ-HD316A is equipped with the latest value added features to satisfy users' requirements and includes benefits such as system reliability, operation efficiency, and cost savings.
The new algorithm divides entire screens into high and low frequency elements to reduce artificial distortion and noise compared to conventional compression. Compared to a conventional algorithm, the data compression ratio of the WJ-HD316A has improved approximately 1.5 - 2 (depending on object and compression mode).
Benchmark commented, "It has some very nice features which make everyday use a simple task, and as such it delivers what most installers, specifiers and end users will want from a DVR."
Benchmark concluded, "The Panasonic DVR combines ease of use with image quality and perfectly illustrates the point that not all proprietary compression algorithms leave something to be desired. It has some very nice touches about it, and its flexibility and scalability are impressive."
