Axis CEO on the slowing IP-transition

Lund, Sweden

Ray Mauritsson, CEO of Axis

As a rapid response to a newly released market report from IMS Research stating that the general economic slow-down is affecting the network video market negatively, Axis CEO Ray Mauritsson comments on how this will affect the ongoing transition from analogue to IP-based cameras.

IMS Research has, since some years back, predicted that the global growth of the market for network video products will grow at an annual rate of 40 percent. As a consequence of the slowing US economy, IMS has updated this prediction down to 30 percent. IMS believes that 2008 will see a somewhat slower growth in this market, as compared to year 2007.

As earlier mentioned, Axis' ambition is to grow in the same speed as the overall market. Axis claims that the interest for network video products has been strong during the spring, but that the financial troubles have affected new investments and expansion plans. This has now started to affect the network video market, according to Axis.

"We have seen signals from the market, for example from the European retail market, but in particular from USA where big retail chains have chosen to not expand according to previous plans. As around 25 percent of all video installations are made in that segment, we have come to the conclusion that the speed of the technology shift from analogue to digital network video has slowed down" says Ray Mauritsson, CEO, Axis Communications.

Despite the lowering speed of the technology shift, Axis' goal and expansion plans remain unchanged. The company's goal is to keep and strengthen its position as market leading supplier of network based video solutions.
