APS Expo Europe - aviation security technologies and practices in focus

Granted the media frenzy that has surrounded the alleged plot to blow up airliners routed from the United Kingdom to the United States, attention has moved on from the potential horrific outcome, had the plot succeeded, to a re-evaluation of the security measures that are in place to supposedly protect the transport security industry.

The Air & Port Security Expo Europe, long scheduled to take place in Brussels on 13 and 14 September has naturally evolved into the forum for regional industry debate over procedures and methodologies. APS also affords airports and airlines as well as seaports, shipping companies and related Government departments an opportunity to evaluate the latest technological offerings that can help better safeguard the industry.
One of the most sensitive topics for discussion will be that of Passenger Profiling. Philip Baum, the Editor of Aviation Security International, has been quite outspoken in his criticism of regulators' over-reliance on technology and reluctance to embrace, what he calls, "common sense security". Philip Baum will be presenting his views on Passenger Profiling, outlining just how effective and doable the technique is.
This is a rare opportunity for the industry and media to listen to the case for profiling, presented not in media-orientated sound bites but in considered analytical detail.
Other key note presentations include European Commission, NATO, British Pilots Association and Maritime Security Council, which will take place alongside 100 exhibiting companies who will showcase their latest product launches for 2007.
