26-bit wiegand cards

Chatsworth, California

Secura Key is now offering HID compatible 26-bit Wiegand-effect access control cards. These cards are available through Secura Key's distributor and dealer network.

Although true Wiegand-effect swipe cards are considered a legacy technology, many large access control systems continue to use Wiegand technology because the readers are sealed, reliable, weatherproof units, and because the cards are extremely difficult to copy and they do not wear out.

Until now, Wiegand cards were available primarily from HID Global Corporation, following the cessation of Wiegand card production by Doduco in Germany and cardkey systems in California.

Secura Key's 35 years of card manufacturing expertise allows it to build flatter Wiegand cards with fewer cosmetic flaws, which is particularly important for dye sublimation printing. Secura Key can also offer multi-technology cards incorporating both Wiegand and contactless smart card technology in a single package. This allows Wiegand card customers a new upgrade path to the Secura Key e*Tag Contactless Smart Card line. By using etched inlays instead of air coil construction, Secura Key is able to get better contactless read range from a multi-technology Wiegand card, as well as better cosmetic appearance. Secura Key offers 4-color custom printing, optional mag stripe and laser-engraved card numbers.

Wiegand card pricing has continued to increase over the last several years. By providing the market with an alternative supplier for Wiegand cards, Secura Key hopes to lower costs for end-users, while improving card quality and offering alternate upgrade paths.
