Theia’s image resolution calculator is a tool that allows users to input video surveillance parameters, and provides the corresponding image resolution. Users input the camera resolution, sensor size, lens choice and one of 3 variables - camera distance, resolution, or field of view needed. The tool calculates image resolution and returns an image at the corresponding resolution to help the user understand what level of detail can be seen using the combinations of variables.

The calculator is unique among online tools in that it provides a dynamic image for a better understanding of what to expect from user inputs. According to the company, no other lens calculator offers a representative image to help the user understand image quality and resolution. It gives a designer a good indication of whether their proposed choice of equipment will work prior to installation and testing, helping to avoid product specification mistakes and costly system rework. Theia has applied for a patent for the calculator and its unique image resolution simulation functionality. The calculator app’ version for Iphone and Droid was honoured with the ISC New Product Showcase award for Tools and Hardware earlier this year at ISC West.
