Smiths Group VP elected chair of security coalition

Washington, D.C

Kevin Schmidt, Vice President of Government Relations for Smiths Group, has been elected as Chairman of the Security Manufacturers Coalition (SMC).

The SMC includes U.S. security screening and technology manufacturers who supply equipment to public and private organisations worldwide. The Coalition works closely with the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to represent security manufacturers’ views on critical homeland security issues. Defining requirements that drive research and development investments, as well as advocating for high level security standards and international harmonization are key issues for the coalition.

Shan Hood, President, Smiths Detection Inc., said: “Kevin’s exceptional experience in homeland security and intelligence issues in both the legislative and executive branches allow him to be a powerful advocate for our industry. Smiths Detection is committed to working with our partners in the SMC under Kevin’s leadership to enhance our relationship with the federal government and help protect our country.”

Schmidt joined Smiths Group in 2006 as Vice President, Government Relations, and has more than 20 years experience in government and industry. Kevin served as a professional staff member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) where he was the programme monitor for the Department of Homeland Security among other duties. He later served as a presidential appointee to the Department of Homeland Security Office of Legislative Affairs with responsibility for supporting Intelligence and Operations.
