Securimetrics receives biometrics order value 10 Million USD

The SecuriMetrics division of Viisage Technology, Inc. has announced that the Department of Defense has placed an order for the HIIDE, Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment, device that utilises multi modal identity enrollment and recognition technology.

Valued in excess of $10 million, this new order from the DoD represents a major step forward in the adoption of multi-modal biometric recognition technologies that include iris, face, and finger.
"This order is a watershed event for the industry and demonstrates an emerging market for multi-modal biometric recognition products," said Bob LaPenta, Chairman of the Board of Viisage and Founder and CEO of L-1 Investment Partners. "We believe that the ability to offer this capability, including iris, will be the turning point for the industry and its adoption of this technology. The devices will be used to aid the nation in its effort to secure our troops, our borders and our civilians."
Layering biometric technologies is quickly becoming the standard in high security identification scenarios. Introduced in 2005 by SecuriMetrics, the HIIDE product is the world's first hand-held, full function, multimodal identification device that uses iris, finger and facial recognition. The HIIDE product offers the most scalable and flexible tool today for enrolling, identifying and verifying subjects using any of the three primary biometrics: iris, finger, face -- all in a rugged hand held device.
The device is scalable and flexible, operating in extreme and rugged mobile environments, as well as on a desktop connected to a host personal computer or network.
The HIIDE device has a wide range of applications in the U.S. government's support of national security and homeland defense, and in the civil marketplace, including use by the DoD and other agencies. It can be used for mobile identification of individuals on the battlefield, at border checkpoints, in airports, in detention centers, and for checking individuals against known watch lists.
Through its combined device offerings, SecuriMetrics is a major provider of mobile iris recognition solutions for DoD needs in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia. SecuriMetrics has thousands of devices deployed across the Middle East and other areas of conflict. U.S. detention centres in Iraq and Afghanistan also use SecuriMetrics' devices to manage combatant populations.
The HIIDE device is currently being introduced for use by state and local law enforcement agencies, as well as public and private correctional facilities for suspect, inmate and visitor identification, as well as securing facilities.
"SecuriMetrics has worked closely with the Department of Defense and other government agencies over the past several years in the development of the HIIDE device," said Greg Peterson, Founder and CEO of SecuriMetrics, Inc. "This close industry/government collaboration has resulted in a device uniquely tailored to meet a broad spectrum of iris and multimodal biometrics needs."
