New technology to bring contactless smart card to security applications

Burgess Hill, UK

Honeywell has launched its new OmniAssure mifare contactless smart card readers, developed in conjunction with Integrated Engineering, a leader in the smart card industry. Mifare is a technology for contactless smart cards, using radio frequencies for data transmission and permitting writing and reading of cards.

Honeywell's OmniAssure readers make the power of mifare accessible to the security industry. It enables smart cards to be used across multiple applications including access control, logical (PC) access, storage of biometric (fingerprint, iris) templates, secure IDs with embedded tamper-proof digital photos, parking, ePurse and many other applications requiring secure and reliable read/write cards.

"OmniAssure allows both installers and end-users to take full advantage of secure mifare features, whilst avoiding the added cost of managing and maintaining their own mifare card business," says René von Franquemont, product marketing leader for Europe, Middle East and Africa. "It enables installers to design solutions that meet the security needs of their customers with a product designed with the future in mind."

The patented flash-on-card design allows firmware to be easily updated without having to remove the readers from the wall. The smart card readers feature built-in hardware to support future RS485 protocols, as well as the reading and writing of smart card credentials, making the OmniAssure capable of being updated to the exciting new technologies of the future.
