New Cryptzone module generates OTP using mobile phone app

Gothenberg, Sweden

Cryptzone has launched its own one time password (OTP) module to fully integrate with the Cryptzone Appgate security server.
Cryptzone OTP eliminates the need for additional investment in third party software or hardware, making it an attractive option for mid-sized organisations to manage and afford.

The new authentication method uses a downloadable mobile phone application to generate one time passwords, so no proprietary electronic token is required and SMS messaging costs are eliminated. The OTP application is available for IPhone, Ipad and Android mobile devices.

With easy steps that any mobile phone user can understand and remember, Cryptzone’s OTP method also reduces support overhead. Once initialised all the user needs to do is enter an optional pin and press a button to generate the next password.

Given a one-time password is only valid for one authentication attempt they can not fall prey to keyboard sniffers, password guessing bots and shoulder surfing. Attempted replay attacks simply don’t work, so confidential and sensitive information remains secure.

Where a layered approach to security is required, Cryptzone OTP can be chained with other authentication methods, such as password or OATH based token to provide even stronger two factor authentication.

"Most people carry a mobile device for communication," says Peter Davin, CEO Cryptzone Group, "so it seemed logical for Cryptzone to provide a simple and cost-effective OTP two factor authentication by this means too."

Other authentication methods that work in conjunction with Cryptzone’s Appgate security server are directory server authentication (Password), local password, radius, certificate, public/private key pair, Securid. Multiple authentication methods can be configured simultaneously to give organisations maximum flexibility.
