New ANPR system from PIPS

Hampshire, UK

PIPS Technology Ltd launch a further addition to its range of Spike products: PIPS P382 Spike2 is a fully integrated number plate reading system, designed for use in the highest performance applications where multiple lane coverage is required from a single ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) unit.

Spike2, like its counterpart Spike, is a combination of colour and infrared CCTV cameras, a computer, a mobile phone, digital video recorder and power cables integrated into one smaller, less disruptive and cost-effective unit that operates 24 hours a day.

Principal features of Spike2 include the ability to read multiple number plates in a single field of view, with the addition of JPEG hardware compression, to provide a real-time IP video stream of the traffic. This is also available for the IR camera, providing a direct digital feed for ground-truth image capture.

Spike2 has the power, Ethernet, serial trigger (tamper detection) and colour video enclosed within a single cable; powerful enough for full operation on long cable runs, up to one hundred metres from the power source. Robust, metal gland, cable seals enable up to three separate cable entries, for connection to dedicated short range communication (DSRC), or other required equipment.

Spike2 is fully web-enabled and can be configured and monitored from a standard web-browser on a PC. The camera incorporates an embedded Linux operating system, offering standard Linux connectivity with encrypted links.

Spike2 incorporates PIPS 'AutoPlate' ANPR engine, proven in many countries worldwide. Patented real-time video triggering provides excellent plate detection. A vehicle presence trigger input is also provided for the most demanding applications, such as taking an overview picture of a vehicle with a missing plate. The trigger input can also be used for tamper detection in a roadside cabinet.
