First chinese airport to trial Smiths smart checkpoint

Edgewood, Md (USA) and Chengdu, China

Smiths Detection is partnering with Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport to trial the company's smart security checkpoint for the first time in China.

An integrated system that combines advanced X-ray inspection screening and an automated tray return system, the smart security checkpoint provides heightened security alongside smoother passenger experience and improved operational efficiency.

Central to the trial is the Hi-Scan 6040p-2is dual view X-ray inspection unit for carry-on luggage and the Ilane.evo automated tray handling system. The Hi-Scan 6040p-2is certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), generates reliable and high-quality x-ray scanned images of personal belongings and cabin baggage, while the Ilane.evo automatically detects and re-routes suspicious items removing bottlenecks of passenger flow. Equipped with dual-view capabilities, the Hi-Scan 6040p-2is reduces the need for manual bag checks or re-checks, enabling faster security clearances providing a seamless journey for passengers.

The “live” trial involving real passengers will continue until March 2020.

Chengdu Airport spokesperson said, “Maximising the security and experience of our passengers is top priority at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. Equipped with Smiths Detection’s state-of-the-art smart security checkpoint, we’re confident in enhancing our security controls at checkpoints and boosting passengers’ convenience.”

Dennis Zeng, General Manager, Smiths Detection China added that “Smiths Detection is pleased to be driving our first integrated security checkpoint trial in China.” Combined, the Hi-Scan 6040p-2is and the Ilane.evo streamline screening processes and reduce operational costs. Mr Zeng, continued, “We anticipate post-trial feedback and know that Smiths Detection can leverage our global experience to help fortify Chengdu Airport’s security solutions to a greater degree than pre-trial. We are glad that our current collaboration with Chengdu airport has instilled in them the confidence to work with us on this first live-trial, and we hope to continue sharing our security expertise with airports across China.”
