One recent request Dortronics received included detailed specifications for a uniquely shaped push-button switch for use outdoors. Upon review of the specifications, one of Dortronics designers called the customer to recommend a slight change in the size of the faceplate for more efficient material usage, which would also result in better pricing. He also mentioned that the design didn’t include any accommodations for mounting the switch, and inquired about an oddly placed hole on the faceplate. The user replied that the design specifications were developed so that the custom fabricated switch could fit horizontally into the space occupied by a single brick, which were used throughout the construction of his facility’s campus. He added that the oddly placed hole in the design was intended to house a traffic LED that they would be installing on site. Once clarified, Dortronics put the design into production and shipped the requested number of units in two days.
