Saudi university upgrades campus security

Majmaah City, Saudi Arabia

Idis has delivered a comprehensive Idis Direct IP HD surveillance solution for Majmaah University in Saudi Arabia to enhance safety for students and staff across multiple campus sites.

Majmaah University was founded in 2009 as part of a state-sponsored Ministry of Education initiative to meet rising demand for university education and research in Saudi Arabia. The main campus is in Majmaah city, with key satellite sites in Hawtat Sudair and Alghat. Teaching and research is delivered through 13 academic schools and around 20 buildings across its key campus sites located almost 50km apart.

The university security team chose the integrated Idis Direct IP solution in collaboration with expert regional security systems integrator Digital Media. Decisive factors included superior performance and proven capabilities to deliver centralised control, reliable remote monitoring, excellent image quality, rapid video retrieval, optimised use of network bandwidth and low total cost of ownership.

Other key benefits included fast plug-and-play deployment; compatibility of all surveillance systems with video management software Idis Solution Suite (ISS); ease of use; live and simultaneous video playback; dynamic multi-stream control; multiview functionality; simultaneous map monitoring; minimal maintenance; plus, user-friendly diagnostic, administration and reporting capabilities.

The networked solution includes 336 pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ), box, dome and infra-red bullet cameras; 18 network video recorders (NVRs); a suite of ISS Expert servers and clients; and 16 DAS systems. In addition, a new command centre at Majmaah was fully equipped with control equipment including an ISS video wall and 512Ch federation server to provide centralised monitoring across multiple campus sites.

Ahmed Dahi, General Manager of Digital Media said: “Following a thorough review of available surveillance systems, the integrated Idis Direct IP solution proved an ideal match. Major advantages included the reliable redundancy capabilities to minimise network congestion, failover features to prevent service disruption and one-touch focus rapid response cameras. It was quick and simple to install, while user-friendly software enables the university’s in-house team to easily manage monitoring, playback and reporting from any network device.”

Commenting, the security manager at Majmaah University said: “Maximising safety for students and staff and across our campus locations is central to our duty of care. Thanks to the Idis solution, we can easily and cost-effectively maintain high quality security and provide added peace of mind for our students, faculty members, staff and visitors. This in turn is enhancing the quality of the educational environment and supporting our strategic aims.”

Harry Kwon, General Manager of Idis Middle East and Africa, added, “We are delighted that Majmaah University chose the Idis Direct IP solution and that it has been so well received. In today’s rapidly expanding and increasingly global university education sector, maintaining a positive reputation as a safe learning environment is vital to the success of any university. We are pleased therefore that Idis Direct IP is making a valuable contribution to the pursuit of learning and knowledge at one of Saudi Arabia’s newest universities.”

He added: “This news also marks the start of an exciting collaboration between Idis and Digital Media. Thanks to the in-depth expertise of the Digital Media team, the installation was carried out quickly and smoothly without disruption to routine operations. In addition to the expert installation of all network equipment and devices, Digital Media ensured a seamless handover to the Majmaah in-house team. We are looking forward to a long, mutually successful partnership.”
