Veracity wins innovation award for Coldstore video storage solution

London, UK

Veracity has won the 'Security Innovation of the Year' award for its Coldstore video surveillance storage solution.
Coldstore beat stiff competition to win the internationally-recognised award, which was presented in front of a 1000-strong audience at the Security Excellence Awards ceremony held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on 19th October 2011.

Coldstore was recognised for the award by a judging panel consisting of 26 judges – all are senior representatives from across the UK security industry ranging from heads of industry associations through to security company chief executives. The judges awarded Veracity Coldstore ‘Security Innovation of the Year’ as it is the product or solution they saw to be “groundbreaking in terms of design and how it meets specific customer needs, representing a real step-change in the way security surveillance data is stored and managed.”

Coldstore is a network attached storage array (NAS) which can store up to 45 terabytes of surveillance data across 15 disk drives. It overcomes the reliability, data accessibility and power usage problems associated with traditional RAID-5 storage solutions. Coldstore achieves this by using patented LAID and SFS technologies, with the data written sequentially to each disk drive in turn, moving the drive read/write head from the outside to the centre of the disk in a movement similar to a record player, thereby minimising wear and vibration, plus using less than 40 watts of power.

Video is recorded onto Coldstore’s array using a unique overlapping mirrored-pair disk writing pattern, assuring resilience, yet minimising numbers of disks required. Each disk, once written, can be physically removed for offline storage or evidential transport. Stored video can be accessed from any computer via Veracity’s Diskplay cradle system.

Alastair McLeod, managing director, Veracity UK Ltd, commented: “I am delighted to accept this award and very pleased that the judging panel recognise how Veracity has examined the issues affecting surveillance data storage and addressed them with Coldstore. End users require data storage that is very reliable and stable, easy to manage and use, plus it also works seamlessly with their chosen video management system. Coldstore is being used in many large scale integrations now and we hope this award will encourage new end users to take a closer look at what we have achieved with Coldstore.”
