Sanyo helps retailer protect profits

Norwich, UK

A combination of Sanyo's fully functional domes and networkable DVRs are helping one of the UK's fastest growing retailers to protect their profits.

The Range, who specialise in offering UK customers mid-price home, leisure and garden products, is taking full advantage of the Sanyo CCTV equipment to remotely monitor activity at 34 of their stores. Kristie Bendall, managing director of Gloucester based Fasit Security who installed the CCTV systems said: "The Range has an excellent reputation for offering quality merchandise at affordable prices. Regretfully, however, customers are not always honest and therefore we were asked to recommend and install a CCTV system which would allow security personnel at The Range's head office, as well as local store management, to keep a close eye on any suspicious activity."

Fasit Security have installed 10 Sanyo VCC-9600P high speed domes at each of The Range stores. These models, which can pan at a remarkable 435 degrees per second, offer a combined optical/digital 480 x zoom capability, allowing distant objects to be observed in great detail. Together with up to 20 other fixed Sanyo cameras installed at each store, the domes capture high resolution video images which are recorded and stored on Sanyo DSR-5716P digital video recorders.

"We felt confident in recommending the DSR-5716P DVR to our client as we had used it successfully on a number of other projects and knew that it was very effective in enabling operators to take full control of the domes and cameras. Another major benefit was that the DSR-5716P uses JPEG2000 compression which facilitates high speed transmission of images across a network without the normal pixcelation. This was obviously desirable when looking to capitalise on the high resolution images generated by the domes."

The Range (www.therange.co.uk) originated in the markets of the Southwest where founder Chris Dawson started doing business as an open air market trader. The first Range 'superstore' was opened at Sugar Mill Business Park in Plymouth in 1989 and it is from these humble beginnings that The Range has now grown into a retail chain with 37 stores nationwide. Chris' entrepreneurial talent has further earned him wide recognition amongst the business community.
