Innovation award for new iBox from Spinnaker
The iBox is an electronically controlled cash box which, in the event of attack by robbers, degrades the bank notes inside it by staining them with dye. "The robbers may get the box, but the contents are useless" John Yandell explained. "This is an effective deterrent, we have found that the local incidence of robberies immediately drop once the new cash box is introduced".
The iBox also uses positioning and telephone technologies to ensure that it can be tracked and recovered. "Most of the systems within the iBox have been developed in-house and are patented to us" John Yandell said. "We have close links with the local Universities, and have benefited from knowledge exchange with staff and students, as well as our in-house engineering team which includes software, electronics and mechanical specialists".
South East Cornwall MP Colin Breed has followed the company's success since it first started in Callington in the 1980s, and since its move to larger premises in Saltash, opened by the Princess Royal in 1998.
"Cornwall's future prosperity depends on encouraging and supporting innovative companies such as Spinnaker, I know the time and energy that lies behind their success and I am very happy to offer my congratulations to them on securing this coveted award" he said.
Isobel Bryce, Headteacher, said "Saltash.net community school is working closely with Spinnaker International on various projects. They are an important partner in developing our status as a Specialist School in Maths Science and IT and are helping us improve our students understanding of the world of technology. We have benefited from their commitment to the community and I am delighted to be able to congratulate them on their new award for innovation, which is richly deserved".
