Facial biometrics take a new direction

Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire (UK)

At Ifsec Aurora will be launching the Facesentinel, marketed as the world’s first facial recognition access control product powered by "Deep Learning".

With a wealth of experience in the airport sector, Aurora now brings its world-leading facial recognition technology to the security industry. Facesentinel uses the powerful artificial intelligence of Deep Learning to provide some of the fastest, most accurate and most consistent facial recognition authentication techniques to high security access control systems.

Deep Learning (DL) is a form of artificial intelligence in which a computer “brain” can be trained to recognise patterns of characteristics by processing large amounts of data. DL has recently been applied to many tasks which are familiar to us in everyday life, including voice recognition, movie and music recommendation.

Aurora aims to be at the forefront of these new advances and, according to the company, the obvious place to start was to apply this new technology to its Facial Recognition products.

Facesentinel is designed for applications where the highest levels of security and reliability are required. Small, non-intrusive and non-contact, it has been engineered to offer effective levels of unobtrusive second-level authentication. Integrating directly with existing access control technology via industry standard protocols, Facesentinel is able to act as a high-speed, accurate and consistent enhancement for the security systems of critical sites.
