DSP-based video encoder

Windhagen, Germany

Geutebruck's new DSP-based video encoder, CAM2IP has two important roles: it enables the easy integration of analog cameras into networks, and it puts the intelligent video management where it can relieve the network most, next to the camera.

Designed to operate in CCTV systems with GeViScope or re_porter CCTV platforms, CAM2IP reinvigorates existing infrastructure with its high functionality and easy software upgrading. It converts an existing analog camera into an intelligent network camera which only feeds pictures into the network when they are needed and in the form they are needed, saving bandwidth and hence network costs.

Permanent or event-controlled encoding can be managed by the encoder's built-in activity detection function, via TCP/IP alarm trigger from the host server, and/or directly through its alarm input. MPEG4CCTV, Geutebruck's differential video encoding system enables CAM2IP to offer several other special strategies which boost efficiency by avoiding the generation and transmission of unnecessary data. - Using a process called dynamic live streaming, feedback from the display server enables CAM2IP to feed live pictures into the network ready-sized for the current viewing window.

The intelligent compression dynamic function uses analyses from the activity detection or (optional) VMD software to vary the video compression according to the activity in the scene. And, with dual channel streaming, CAM2IP can also encode two independent streams at once - for example to provide a 25 fps high resolution stream for local recording in a distributed system, and a lower speed/format version of the same pictures for live viewing elsewhere in the network.

CAM2IP has the sensitivity to handle both basic indoor and sophisticated outdoor cameras and its high speed encoding enables the operation of high speed domes and PTZ systems. Its serial interface can also be used for setting up remote cameras or other devices, and the encoder's PoE function will support both itself and an associated camera requiring up to 12V DC/600mA. - So with no need for dedicated cabling, installation is quick and easy.
