Partnership implements upgrade for Liverpool M&S Bank Arena

Knutsford, Cheshire

Cortech Developments has successfully completed an upgrade project in the heart of Liverpool by working in partnership with one of its Gold Technical Partners – Protec Fire and Security Group and one of its manufacturer partners Vicon.

The M&S Bank Arena has been a long-standing end user of Cortech Developments software for over 15 years, with Datalog 4 originally being installed on site back in 2007 with the main objective being to keep the arena, its people and guests’ safe and secure.

Since then, and by working in partnership with Protec Fire and Security, the arena has undergone a full upgrade path with the company's core software, starting with an upgrade to Datalog 5 in 2015, Datalog 5.1, and Datalog 5.2. Most recently they completed their upgrade plan with the addition of Datalog MV to support the upgrade of their partially analogue Viconnet system with the advanced Valerus video management system.

As the incumbent for the arena, Protec Fire and Security were tasked with upgrading the existing system to a new cutting-edge, fully digital CCTV solution for the full facility, including the interconnected Convention centre.

One of the key challenges of this project was to upgrade Datalog to incorporate Datalog MV and integrate the new CCTV system, while providing no risk to the safety and security of the arenas visitors, staff, performers or creating any impact on their overall experience.

Commenting on the success of the project, James Francis, Head of Security for ACC Liverpool, said: “Protec Security & Fire Group consistently displayed the shared values of ACC Liverpool, putting the safety and security of the venue and customers at the heart of every decision. From the initial concept through to the design and installation phases of the project, the Protec team showed the highest level of professionalism and dedication to deliver an outstanding control room solution for our venue.”

Greater visibility through the arena

By fully integrating the arenas multiple CCTV, Intruder, Fire and Access Control systems into one centralised platform, Datalog 5, has resulted in greater visibility for the arenas security operators and improved reaction times – all of which are vital for the protection of guests, performers, and venue staff.

With any venue accommodating large visitor numbers, safety is always of the utmost importance and by working in partnership with Protec, Cortech were able to provide the M&S Bank Arena with a successful upgrade to their current system, in a timely manner.

This upgrade has allowed for arena operators, situated in the newly refurbished control room, to obtain greater visibility and situational awareness, whilst also offering them new possibilities and benefits.

Reflecting on the project Damian Parker, Security Operations Manager for Protec Fire and Security Group said, “This upgrade project was the result of many years consultation with the client and product trials by various manufacturers to ensure a future proof and user-friendly security SMS solution was provided. We are pleased as a team to have met the brief and provide Safety and protection throughout the M & S Arena and associated buildings giving confidence for their Security management team, staff, and customers alike."
