Freeway service area deploys traffic control solution

Taipei, Taiwan

Chung Shui Service Area is one of the most well-known rest stops on Taiwan’s central highway. Since the early 21st century, Taiwan has been implementing a comprehensive rest area renovation plan, transforming many service areas into modern, integrated rest areas. These now feature popular restaurants, shops, and other establishments, attracting many visitors who travel specifically to these locations.

Chung Shui Service Area is a prime example. Whether it’s land area or parking capacity, it consistently ranks among the top in Taiwan. In terms of revenue, it stands at the top. Yes, Chung Shui is the highest-earning rest stop in Taiwan, reflecting its bustling traffic and high volume of visitors.

With such a vast number of visitors and vehicles, it is important that the management handles this effectively. Especially when dealing with various types of vehicles, deploying surveillance cameras, recording devices, and central management systems becomes a major undertaking.

Moreover, to meet the needs of unattended, automated management systems (such as parking management), a highly complex system architecture was previously required to achieve such integration.

Streamlined system framework

Lilin's intelligent monitoring framework was selected to efficiently address these challenges. Lilin intelligent cameras perform visual recognition without the need to rely on additional computers or processing units, and with seamless integration of hardware I/O with peripheral devices, and so achieving a streamlined system framework.

For example, in parking management, Lilin's intelligent cameras detect vehicle types and monitor parking usage, record license plates, and sync with digital signage to provide comprehensive information.

Big data analytics for efficient operations

Additionally, big data analytics help the service area manage operations more efficiently.

Rest stops operate 24/7, 365 days a year, resulting in massive amounts of data being generated. Lilin’s centralised system supports AI-powered event search within video footage, such as “lost item detection.” When an item is lost, the system sends alerts and records the footage, eliminating the need for staff to manually sift through extensive video footage.

PTZ cameras with optical zoom capabilities are increasingly common at highways and service areas. Their flexibility and durability are key factors. Lilin currently produces high-performance cameras with up to 40x optical zoom, offering a range of up to 800 meters, making them ideal for expansive areas.

Pedestrian detection helps create a pedestrian-friendly environment while providing alerts to vehicles.

Smart transport experience

“Lilin cameras are a familiar sight on Taiwan’s highways,” said Steve Hu, CIO at Lilin. “We’ve been deeply involved in the smart transportation field for years, making our solutions intuitive and reliable.”

Whether for leisure, business, or daily commuting, highway service areas provide a sense of security and convenience. With Lilin’s advanced surveillance systems, service areas are able to offer even higher-quality service and boost customer satisfaction.
