Cortech partners to complete new project at Millennium Point

Birmingham, UK

A new project at a new landmark award winning venue in Birmingham recently involved the installation and configuration of Datalog and Datalog MV from Cortech Developments, both of which formed part of a larger project, which saw the end user complete a full upgrade of their control room and security equipment.

Millennium Point in central Birmingham is home to a multi-use events and conference venue, a public building, and a charitable trust, and with over one million visitors a year, the complex contains multiple event spaces, including a 354-seat auditorium.

One of the most important responsibilities of facility and security management is to secure the venue, protect visitors, tenants, and staff, and safeguard multiple buildings within the estate. Security and safety are both vital in this industry and on this basis, the venue has implemented measures to protect its visitors, employees and physical resources and assets.

The project consisted of 130 CCTV cameras, which were replaced both internally and externally throughout the site, and fire alarms, access control and building security systems were all upgraded and integrated into Datalog, providing real time images over a large area, allowing the security operators to obtain greater visibility and situational awareness while allowing them to respond to alarms, events, or alerts triggered in a more efficient and timely manner.

One of the key challenges was to ensure the whole project was completed without impacting the safety of visitors, and tenants or causing any disruption to their customer events.  The installation was carried out by Trident Specialist Solutions, an integrated security provider, who specialise in the Datalog management suite. Their team of Datalog experts, based in multiple areas of the UK have been working with Cortech and our products since 2008.

They aim to provide proficiency in support of design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the Datalog product range and can provide everything, from a full turnkey solution of Datalog to a one-time project and maintenance support.

Datalog the chosen fire and security management system selected has been designed to simplify the monitoring and control of otherwise disparate systems into a centralised graphical user interface. In addition to streamlining system operations, the software will also offers to increase situational awareness and accountability while reducing risks. This results in the operators being able to provide an increased measure of safety and security to the visitors and staff.

Luke Flynn at Trident Specialist Solutions comments, “The new control project at Millennium Point presented a significant opportunity to showcase how a well-deployed Datalog management suite could substantially enhance the work efficiency of security control room operators.

Before the upgrade, the security team managed intruder, fire, access, and CCTV from individual panels and workstations. Operators now benefit from two fully integrated ergonomic SMS workstations with a large video wall, all managed by Datalog MV.

Integrated drivers enable operators to monitor the current status of all third-party systems, utilising a tiered map system that facilitates a single-click CCTV image call-up and provides access to recordings, as well as door and gate releases.

Situated in the centre of Birmingham, with a considerable flow of public and university students and staff passing through or around the site, time is of the essence. The Datalog offers instant event monitoring, empowering operators to respond promptly armed with accurate information that can be seamlessly conveyed to local authorities when necessary.”
