BSIA appoints new Technical Officer

The BSIA has introduced its new Technical Officer as Jim Vithanage.

Jim Vithanage joins the Technical Team in February 2026 and is ready to get started by facilitating meetings, drafting and updating industry standards and codes, representing BSIA at regulatory bodies, and advising on compliance.

Jim brings a wealth of experience as a veteran of over 40 years in the IT and Communications fields.

He began his career in the Royal Navy as a Fleet Air Arm Artificer Engineer. His technical skills were honed and developed during that time along with a strong foundation in engineering. Since then Jim has been employed in various roles across both the public and private sectors.

Over this time he has accumulated significant knowledge and network contacts in numerous industries, including defence, fire, security, critical life communications and manufacturing.
