Avigilon helps protect Finnish city

Vancouver, Canada and Tampere, Finland

Avigilon was recently able to leverage the Tampere City Department of Social Services and Health Care’s 600 existing analogue cameras and assist them with the transition to IP with 67 Avigilon video encoders, while simultaneously adding an advanced high-definition surveillance system consisting of cameras and software.

The challenge was to reduce incidents of violence and crime, better protect patients and its 5,600-plus employees, and improve overall best practice in their health care facilities.

The department installed more than 335 Avigilon HD cameras ranging from 1MP to 5 MP across their properties, all of which are monitored 24/7 and managed using the Avigilon Control Center (ACC) software with high definition stream management (HDSM) technology. With 13 Avigilon network video recorders (NVRs) and plans to upgrade its remaining 25 servers to Avigilon, Tampere stores up to two weeks of continuous surveillance footage.

The department now has a reliable way to clearly capture data in its facilities to lower criminal activity, monitor patients, enhance the health care service provided, and improve onsite safety. With the user-friendly Avigilon Control Center software, officials can now easily find the right information for quick incident resolution, leading to improved processes and procedures, and convictions, when necessary. The department has also saved tens of thousands of euros in theft and damage, and has significantly reduced the number of false liability claims.  Patient and employee safety has been improved, there is better patient control and higher quality service, faster and more successful investigations, and theft, vandalism and crime has been reduced.  False liability claims have also been reduced and the system is scalable to meet future Safe City goals.
