Xtralis VLQ for compact critical infrastructure scenarios

Dublin, Eire

The new Xtralis VESDA Laser Quantum (VLQ) aspirating smoke detector (ASD) is a cost-effective solution that provides very early warning smoke detection for critical infrastructure in compact areas of up to 100 m² (1,000 ft).

Example applications include remote telecommunications exchanges, base station and cell huts, portable data centre containers, packaged HVAC units, power generator enclosures, and modular laboratories. VLQ detectors provide the unique combination of very early warning smoke detection and easy installation advantages including out-of-the-box operation, auto-learning, and pre-engineered pipe networks.

VLQ detectors actively draw air from the protected area through a pipe network with 4 Class-A (EN54-20) holes. The VLQ has two pipe inlets and two holes on each pipe network. Sampled air is filtered before being analysed by the detection chamber with optics protected by a clear air barrier. The VLQ utilises a laser light source and photoelectric receiver circuitry to detect scattered light caused by the presence of smoke. Alarm (Pre-Alarm & Fire) and Fault conditions are reported with LEDs on the VLQ and through dry contact relays. The system allows configuration of both smoke alarm and flow fault thresholds to suit application needs.
