Ionscan 600 wins STAC approval

Smiths Detection explosives detector Ionscan 600

The Ionscan 600, from Smiths Detection, a non-radioactive, portable explosives detector, has received France’s STAC (Service Technique de L’aviation Civile) approval for air cargo and passenger screening.

The Ionscan 600 is the latest Smiths Detection product to achieve STAC certification for automatic explosive trace detection (ETD). Its performance, portable design, and ease-of-use have already helped it pass all the tests needed to comply with strict EU regulations.

STAC is attached to the Air Transport Directorate of the French Transport Ministry and provides assistance to the country’s Ministry of Defence. It aids airports with technical expertise and support, focusing on airport infrastructure and equipment, air navigation, environment, and air transport safety and security.

Shan Hood, Vice President, Products and Technology, Smiths Detection, said: “This is another great achievement for the Ionscan 600, which is already proving to be a ‘must have’ product for cargo and passenger screening applications. The STAC seal of approval provides our French and EU customers further reassurance that our products are built with quality and precision, and comply with EU regulations.”

Ionscan 600 has also passed European Civil Aviation Conference’s (ECAC) Common Evaluation Process (CEP) ETD Standard for passenger and cargo checkpoint screening. It can also be used for critical non-aviation applications such as military checkpoints, customs inspection and the protection of national infrastructure.
