Siemens wins major ANPR contract

Poole, Dorset (UK)

An order for 175 Sicore Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras has been placed with Siemens ITS by 7iD, an Austrian system integration company based in Graz.

This follows more than seven months of trials including a technical proof of concept against a number of competitors in the market where Siemens’ ANPR performance in both detection and read rate tested successfully.

The cameras will be installed into a logistics environment as part of a larger project, which also involves the installation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices supplied by the Siemens Process Industries and Drives Division.

According to David Montgomery, Global Sales Manager – Enforcement Systems, the customer, an international logistics operating company, will benefit from correlated ANPR and RFID data of its approaching vehicles, reducing wait times for drivers upon arrival at their logistics facilities before they are directed to their waiting / loading / unloading bay.

‘The reduced wait times are significant at the peak times of the inbound / outbound traffic from the sites with savings being expected from reduced fuel costs cause by queuing, greater utilisation of both their vehicle fleet and their logistics hubs as the dock and yard management processes are able to become more effective‘ he said.

Delivery of the product to the customer will begin in February 2017 with the deliveries expected to be concluded before the end of September 2017.

Siemens Sicore ANPR cameras have been deployed around the globe for a variety of applications including average speed enforcement, access control, border control, journey time monitoring, dangerous goods detection, security, tolling, tolling enforcement and policing. The Siemens Enforcement Solutions portfolio will be on display at Traffex 2017 at the NEC, Birmingham UK in April.
