Rainbow on the border

Irvine, Ca (USA)

Camera-lens combinations from Rainbow are being used by one of the US's most prominent surveillance companies, Virginia-based New Technology Management Inc (NTMI.)

A range of lenses ensures that security staff are provided with suitable fields of view according to location and the type of images required. The lenses include Rainbow's L885VDC4P 8.5~85mm model. This offers an aperture F1.6 with built-in ND spot filter. The lens has a minimum object distance of 1.2m and is CS-mount. A C-mount version is also available.
NTMI is a leader in the creation, integration and maintenance of security observation systems with clients including the US Army, Navy and Air Force as well as the Marine Corps and the Department of Homeland Security.
The Rainbow cameras used by NTMI are the CLD46D 1/3" color DSP models offering 460 TV lines resolution. The equipment's high sensitivity allows operation at a minimum illumination of 0.3 lux and the camera features electronic iris. Backlight compensation is a boon for integrators who can configure the cameras without the need for filters and with minimal adjustment.
NTMI are using the cameras in 'smart border' technology on surveillance systems for the Homeland Security Mission along the 7,500 miles of the US's border with Canada and Mexico. Analogue feeds from the fixed camera configurations on border observation sites are encoded and digitised to a secure backbone surveillance network.
Founded in 1990, NTMI provides IT operations and security management for many military agencies. As well as working for the Customs and Border Protection arm of the Department of Homeland Security, the company is engaged by other civilian agencies including the Department of Agriculture and the Securities and Exchange Commission. NTMI has been listed among the Washington Post's top 25 IT companies on three consecutive occasions.
